Thrive Celebrates Earth Day
Across the Thrive Childcare and Education sites in England and Scotland our teams have been celebrating Earth Day 2022.
Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22, is a reminder to protect the environment, restore damaged ecosystems and live a more sustainable life; values all shared by Thrive Childcare and Education.
First celebrated in 1970, this year marks its 52nd anniversary.
Check out the official Earth Day site.
Earth Day is April 22 every year, but Thrive Childcare and Education believe that we can take action any day!
we are passionate about looking after our planet in order that the children we care for, and future generations, can still experience the awe and wonder of the natural world we live in. As such we have created our own initiative called ‘Conservation Champions’.
We stress the importance of emphasising the importance of nature to all the children in our care, by highlighting the dangers our planet face as well as the different things we approaches we have to tackling them. These include making our children aware of the threats posed by climate change, the greenhouse effect, pollution and deforestation.
Apart from the important process of making our children aware of these threats to the environment, we take active steps in providing them with resources and strategies to improve the health of the planet. These include:
- Planting seeds in small pots and nurturing them as they grow into seedlings before repotting them or planting them outdoors.
- Allowing children to water plants every day.
- Encouraging children to observe the changes as plants grow.
- Allowing children to eat produce safely and/or take home to share with their families.
- Teaching children about the seasons and the different produce that grows at different times of the year.
Please read about Thrive Childcare and Education’s development of the Conservation Champion’s programme designed to deal with the challenges our Earth faces.
As well as teaching children essential skills that will last them a lifetime and helping children discover where fruit and vegetables come from, our children benefit from the process of planting and gardening. This also helps them to learn and respect how amazing the Earth is. The different ways we do this involves:
- Planting seeds in small pots and nurturing them as they grow into seedlings before repotting them or planting them outdoors.
- Allowing children to water plants every day.
- Encouraging children to observe the changes as plants grow.
- Allowing children to eat produce safely and/or take home to share with their families.
- Teaching children about the seasons and the different produce that grows at different times of the year.
Thrive Childcare and Education would like to say thank everyone for taking part in efforts to protect out beautiful planet!
